| The most common thing that I hear when I am talking to a customer about there computer is this: "I don't want to do that, I'll probably break it". Or: "I don't know how to do that". Well, you will never find out unless you do it.
There is no computer out there that can not be fixed. Hardware or software, if something is wrong it can be fixed. And here's the good part- YOU CAN fix it.
When your playing around on your computer, and you run into an area that you have never been and start wondering what it does, find out, do something and see what it does. If something goes wrong, change it back. A lot of people are afraid to play around in there computer cause they might loose everything they have. I can understand this to a certain point.
The first thing you should be doing when you get your computer is making restore disc's. Restore disc's are critical for your computer, cause if something does happen down the road and your computer needs to be restored, you can do it with these disc's. The problem is, most people do not do this. I don't know how many computers I have had to restore using my own disc's simply because people do not know how to do this. And here's the thing, if I restore a computer using your disc's the fee is $50.00 cheaper than using mine.
With the computers coming out today, and the new applications of Vista and 7, creating restore CD's is part of the program. In fact, its one of the first things the computer wants to do with you. SO DON'T IGNORE IT, DO IT.
Another thing you should do when getting a new computer is have a backup drive. A backup drive can be a couple different devices, either a USB flash drive with plenty of space or an external Hard Drive. You can also use CD's or DVD's. If your willing to spend all that money on a new computer, than spending an extra $80.00 on a cheap backup Hard Drive will be nothing. By having this, everything that is important to you that you do not want to loose you can store on this backup drive. Than if something does go wrong, you wont loose it.
Most external Hard Drives have a neat feature for this- 1 button backup. On the case itself, there will be a button. You push this button and the program will backup all the folder's and files you have selected for you.
Another option is simply putting another Hard Drive in your computer. This is fast and easy as well, but not as safe. By having another hard drive inside your computer if you happen to caught a virus it can spread to this hard drive as well. In fact there are virus's and malware out there designed just for this. Plus with this backup drive in your computer, it is always running so the chances of it going bad are much faster than having an external hard drive that you turn on only when you need it.
Another thing I have noticed with most people is your not keeping track of all your software disc's. I don't know how many times I have had to restore a computer, and asked if they have there software cd's only to find out they have no idea what happened to them. Well now those program that either came with the computer or you bought after, you have to pay for again.
